The biggest question here is about finances.
- You do NOT need to pay for your flight to your ship ever.
- You always pay for your flight home from the ship
- You do need to pay for a camera body. You must use a Nikon D90 or above model. If you already have one you do not need to buy a new camera body. If you need to purchase, the camera is supplied to you by Image and will be paid off by you as you earn.It is advisable to purchase it through Image as it is much cheaper in the USA. Cost $660.
- medical from approved doctor only about R3500
- $500 deposit, to be paid as you earn.
- $200 uniform, paid off as you earn.
If you borrow this money and need to pay it back, there are plenty of facilities in virtually all ports of call using western union or moneygram to name a few. There are also cheap international calls and other crew services like postage etc. Internet is on the ship, of course you need to pay for it.
